I really liked how the whole story went. Each part They just keep getting better! Each part was a necessity for the whole of the story. I'm not sure if there are more stories to come in the series or not, but if there are, I'd be more than happy to read them. Jan 15, Karol rated it really liked it Shelves: Well-written with interesting characters by an author who has an Amish heritage. Several of the characters in this novel are the family of Katie Lapp, who was the main character of the author's famous book "The Shunning". It is interesting to see the tables turn as an "Englischer" comes to live with them in hopes of becoming Amish.

These things take time, yo. Suddenly the bishop is okay with everything and all's good. I actually thought the book could've been a little longer to draw that out and come to a more satisfying conclusion. Aug 24, Laura rated it really liked it. No church is perfect no culture of people are perfect but striving to see Gods beauty daily should achieved by all. Mar 25, Jackie rated it liked it. I've grown to like this hickory hollow series. I loved Andrew and I also appreciated the "conclusion" to the shunning of Katie lapp. But I almost felt that it overshadowed the main story. May 06, Jill rated it really liked it Shelves: This is 4 in the Home to Hickory Hollow series.

I plan to find the others in the series. In this one, Jennifer Burns has decided that she wants to join the Amish community. She felt so out of place in the English world. She learns some secrets that she promised not to tell. Can she still join the Amish Church?

Apr 21, Amanda Oliver rated it it was ok. Mistakenly read this instead of a book of the same title written by Kate Morton.

Either way, it seemed to drag and I was bored. I only finished because I thought it would get more interesting and pick up. Nov 03, Hadley rated it really liked it. I had a hard time getting into this book, but that is most definitely because I had NO idea it was a series! I went ahead and gave it 4 stars because it was still interesting.

Planning to read the rest of the series.

She also has a beau who is courting her from afar, unbeknownst even to her sister, Cora, who, though younger, seems to have suitors to spare. Eben Troyer is a responsible young Amishman who hopes to make Joanna Kurtz his bride--if he can ever leave his parents' farm in Shipshewana, Indiana.

Yet with his only brother off in the English world, intent on a military career, Eben's hopes for building a life with his dear Joanna are dimming, and patience is wearing thin.
