Like its successors, Game of Thrones is potent with foreboding events. Quite a few of which appear to be genuine hints to the truth, but may turn out to be mis-directions. So much that entire wikis and blogs exist dedicated to unravelling the riddles and unveiling the truth. While re-reading Game of Thrones, I kept getting overwhelmed by emotions.
One feels tender protectiveness towards the Starks, wanting to yell warnings all throughout the book. You want to rage at Lord Ned Stark for being too honourable.

You want to shake some sense into Sansa. I would have loved to shower the choicest of abuses on certain characters. Hoping that somehow the storyline would change in the second reading and Ned Stark would escape his fate. But when the axe falls, all your hopes for a happy ending are beheaded. Then you know this is no ordinary story. You feel winter in your bones. So here are my top moments from the first book in no particular order — the moments that were crucial and portentous of coming times in the ASOIAF realm:.
This is the first inkling of the misfortunes which were to befall the Starks. Many such early intimations of the future are embedded within the series, with millions of tireless fans dedicated to decoding them.
These three words are pervasive throughout the book. When reading for the first time assuming complete unawareness of ASOIAF , the gravity and implications may escape the reader. But these three words, more than a just a promise, are the root of the most popular fan theory, viz.
This completely undervalued the shock at the Lannister incest. Tyrion, for no fault of his, was pulled into the conflict when his dagger was found on the assassin sent to silence a comatose Bran. Mycah manages to run away, only to meet a grisly death at the hands of the hound. From the very beginning wherever Bran appears, the text alludes to crows. The full weight of this statement strikes you only in retrospect when you have reached the end of road in A Dance with Dragons.
She truly comes into her element as a Khaleesi when she finally sees Viserys for the mean imbecile that he is and pays back his abuse in kind. This is the moment when you glimpse the indomitable dynamo that Daenerys is to be in coming times. So when Catelyn comes across the unsuspecting Tyrion at the inn on the crossroads, she captures him with the help of fellow travellers. This episode is important for three reasons. Firstly, it brought the wrath of Tywin Lannister on Starks and associates, concerned more about the personal affront to the Lannister honour than the assault on his son.
Finally, this is where we meet Bronn the sellsword, a minor character in the books but a TV favourite, who has a decisive hand in future outcomes. Sandor Clegane is the greyest of all the grey characters in Games of Throne. His unquestioning obedience to Joffrey and cruelty is loathsome. Hence, his protectiveness towards Sansa is a surprise. It is tender, sweet and the only true beauty in an otherwise unappreciated existence of the dwarf. As you progress through the series, the feeling just gets worse.
