I hated that this one didn't end. Still loved the characters and monsters. Great intro on the elves. Really liked the back stories on everybody. Jul 21, Timothy Boyd rated it really liked it. Fantastic end to the trilogy.

Genesis of Shannara Series: Books 1-3

Awesome blend of fantasy and apocalyptic disaster stories. A smooth and easy read. Jul 18, Kelly rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: I really enjoyed reading this. I loved following the characters in all their glory. It is well written and kept me wanting more. Terry Brooks never fails to deliver. That was one of the best series I read yet.

It showed the beginnings of how the world of the 4 lands and the Shanara World began. Perfectly named The Genesis of Shanara! Nov 24, Jeremy Michael Gallen rated it really liked it. The third and final installment of the Genesis of Shannara trilogy by author Terry Brooks opens and ends with bookends focused on a man named Wills in an underground bunker during missile launches that initiate the Great Wars referenced in chronologically-future entries of the Shannara pantheon.

Larkin Quill ultimately comes to take Angel away, with the Elves taking a hot-air balloon back to the Elven city of Arborlon, where demons may be manifesting, although they are somewhat reluctant to attack the settlement due to the Elfstone Loden. In the meanwhile, Panther, one of the youngling Ghosts, is impatient, with Hawk indicating his experiences after leaping with Tessa from the roof of the compound, noting he met an entity known as the King of the Silver River.

The Elf siblings meet with their King to warn of impending danger to their race and civilization, and that the Loden can save them by compacting Arborlon, its population, and the tree Ellcrys, for movement to a safer location, although their admonitions largely go ignored, but Logan, with whom they eventually rendezvous, is more supportive. A demon known as the Klee makes itself known later on in the book, serving as a primary antagonist for the Elves, Ghosts, and Knights of the Word, along with the airborne skrails and plenty of once-men.

Furthermore, the Loden is ultimately lost, necessitating recovery, and Angel begins her such, leaving the care of Larkin Quill, for child refugees and a woman named Helen Rice. A bridge and dam spanning the Columbia River serves as critical battlefields, with the events at the end of the book involving the fulfilment by Hawk as the gypsy morph. I didn't think I would like this series at first because it started in an an apocalyptic America. However, it was artful to weave the story into saving the elves, humans, and other creatures to set the stage for the four lands and the start of Shannara.

Brooks always does such a good job with battles, and this book is no different, the final battle is great! I became very disappointed as the book continued, thinking it wasn't going to end I didn't think I would like this series at first because it started in an an apocalyptic America.

I became very disappointed as the book continued, thinking it wasn't going to end with creating the four lands. I was a bit hem ha about the star character returning to his family after such a catastrophie, which could have taken thousands of years to heal All in all I would always recommend Shannara to those who love magic. Terry Brooks is certainly a master of tales. Finally, I didn't realize the Word and the Void series came first. So this series is actually six books in all - two separate series. I'm glad I read this series first after the other 20 Shannara books, because had I not been reading about elves and magic I may not have enjoyed those books enough to go on to this series..

At this point I am excited to go back and read the Word and the Void.

Happy Reading to you all. Sep 04, Eric Folley rated it liked it. Finally done with this series. A couple of thoughts overall. First, given that this trilogy is part of a much larger series, there seemed to be a lot of repetitive exposition, probably to help readers who haven't read the other dozen or more volumes.

The Gypsy Morph

But even coming to this decades after reading his first books, it seemed excessive. Second, enough with everyone doubting themselves! We get it - the main characters who have missions to perform don't know how they will carry them out. They have dou Finally done with this series. They have doubts and uncertainties. And given that the major turning points are pretty deux-ex-machinistic, that's understandable.

But it doesn't make it more readable.

And frankly, if I saw someone use magic to destroy an entire demon army one day, I probably wouldn't be grousing about "how can we trust him? The Gypsy Morph seems a little out of kilter with the rest of the series. This final volume contains all the classic requirements of what makes a true Brooks story, the heart-felt challenges, the epic struggles, the fight of good vs evil and a plot which writhes like a snake, however something is amiss.

For the first time we have a real sense of exactly what is going to happen and although plenty of new elements are brought in to play, there's no real gasps of surprise. The once fresh scenario o The Gypsy Morph seems a little out of kilter with the rest of the series. The once fresh scenario of Armageddon's Children is now just the expected background, where more pointers to Shannara would have been welcome. The book is still a good read, guaranteed to be a page-turner, however it lacked the sparkle previous books have created.

Jul 19, Kristen Nelson rated it it was amazing Shelves: Final book in the Genesis of Shannara series. Hawk has gathered his children and the final exodus is underway, but the demon army is right on his heels. Logan Tom, Angel Perez, and the Ghosts know that it is just a matter of time before they are overtaken.

The Elves have made their final stand within Arborlon and have been safely hidden away within the Loden; Kirisin and his sister, Sim have got to make sure that nothing happens to the elfstones. Findo Gask has one final trick up his sleeve and Final book in the Genesis of Shannara series. Findo Gask has one final trick up his sleeve and is determined to kill the gypsy morph - the one who escaped him a hundred years ago - at all costs. The final battle will determine the fate of two entire races: Feb 04, Jennifer Peoples rated it really liked it.

The ending was a bit of a let down for me though. I don't like when stories end with that kind of a "and later it was good and life went on in some sort of way. Good god man - are we talking 50 years or years?

Series

Can you tell me how things go for some of the main characters? How do they fit in to the ancestry in the later books? Jan 22, Becky rated it really liked it Shelves: Parts of this book are really strong, with a diverse range of characters who interact in believable ways. I was, however, quite disappointed with the ending which came abruptly and felt pretty messy. I also felt that Tessa was never properly fleshed out as a character. Overall though the series has been an enjoyable read. I have started reading this series of books as if I had not read the Sword of Shannara series because I do not see how these two series will interact.

The ending could have been better, I think everyone would have liked to know how the elves felt about being in the Loden and transported to the valley. Overall the book I have started reading this series of books as if I had not read the Sword of Shannara series because I do not see how these two series will interact.

Overall the book is a very good read. Started reading all the Shannara books again a couple of years ago. This was by far my favourite trilogy in the series. Awesome characters, great storytelling, excellent job with explaining how it all began, something that I've wanted to know since the 80's when I started reading this series. Had to have a box of tissues handy for this one, for my roommate of course, not me.

One thing bothering me though, did Rabbit and Cat make it, are they happy? I really liked those two. The Gypsy Morph joins today's world with the world of Shannara. I mostly enjoyed the journey of Kirisin, and the Elves. I did find some things out of place in this installment. All in all it was an interesting journey and fast read.
